To help celebrate Red Cross Month' Club Red will hold a 'Celebration of
Life'; an evening of art and jazz on the first day
of spring, March 21, 2006 at Las Olas Fine Art, 701 East Las Olas.
Club Red is a new fundraising support group of the Broward County chapter of the
American Red Cross and is made up of young professionals between the ages of
25 and 45. "We're excited about our event at Las Olas Fine Arts. It's a very
contemporary art gallery that has been on Las Olas for twelve years and is
filled with bold and upbeat art and sculpture," said Kathryn Cousins, Chief
Development Officer of the Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
"With its new total refurbishing, it has the look and energy of an art
gallery in the SoHo district of New York City."
"Gallery owner Stephan Rioux is pulling out all the stops to make this a
night to remember," Ms. Cousins noted. Jazz vocalists Juanita Dixon and
pianist Mitch Goldstein will be entertaining throughout the evening and
Premier Beverage will be providing the wine. Hors d'oeuvres will feature 'A
Taste of Las Olas' with food and desserts from a variety of restaurants
including The French Quarter, which was the original home of the Broward
Chapter of the American Red Cross.
To make the evening even more interesting, Israeli born artist, Niso Maman
will be on hand to talk about his unique art sculpture that is represented
at Las Olas Fine Arts and how he came to create his art form. One of the
artist's newest sculptures is entitled Celebration of Life, a 7' tall
abstract woman in red. Stephan will also talk about taking the mystery out
of buying art, how to select art for a growing collection and how his firm
offers in-home viewing, complete installations, appraisals, payment plans
and commissions to specific sizes.
In describing Niso's use of "… everyday metal objects, fused together to
create the contours of the human body," art critic Michael Mills says that
"… Maman wows us with technical virtuosity, with the amazingly fluid grace
of organic forms that have been re-created with something hard and
unyielding."
"Our goal is to make each bi-monthly social event both fun and relevant to
the members," Ms. Cousins said. "At Las Olas fine art our members will have
a chance to meet two artists and learn about how to buy art for enjoyment
and investment." Club Red had their official kick-off social on January
24th at Blue Martini with an attendance of close to 100 people.
In addition to Niso Maman making a personal appearance, another artist
who
is quite popular, Richard Boprae will also be attending to talk with the
members and guests of Club Red about his unique sculptural forms of
repetitive patters on canvas. Boprae uses a cement base to create a high
relief texture on which colors are applied afterwards, creating a
three-dimensional aspect of the final work.. "We're thrilled that the
American Red Cross decided to partner with our gallery to help launch Club
Red," said gallery director, Bud Greenbaum.
"This new group of young professionals will be extremely important to us, as
they will be committed to raising public awareness and funds for the Broward
Chapter of the Red Cross," Kathryn Cousins noted. The Red Cross is an
organization guided by a Congressional Charter, and the principals of the
International Red Cross to provide relief to victims of disaster and help
people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
