Fort Lauderdale Shopping

Even the most avid sun worshipper is invariably lured away from Greater Fort Lauderdale's 23 miles of golden sand beach and into a shop or two. Department stores, flea markets, outlet malls and unique boutiques offer bargains and precious baubles.

Las Olas Boulevard, in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, is lined with chic boutiques and fine dining spots. Shops and galleries along this beautifully landscaped, gas-lighted street purvey a range of goods from European antiques and original needlepoint to clothing and stained glass lighting.

Sawgrass Mills, the world's largest value and entertainment mall, offers over 270 brand-name and designer outlets including Saks Outlet, Neiman Marcus' Last Call, Barney's NY, Ann Taylor, DKNY plus specialty shops and restaurants.

Fort Lauderdale Swap Swap is the south's largest flea market and boasts 80 acres of garage sales, farmers market, international bazaar and county fair. Open seven days a week, the Swap Shop even provides a giant carousel plus free live daily entertainment. Click here for VIP coupons.

Shopaholics unite at the Festival Flea Market Mall, just west of Pompano Beach, where 800 stores, booths and kiosks are stocked with merchandise from around the world.

A mile south of Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, on U.S. l, is a haven for antique lovers. Dania's Antique Row is a one-block area of some 150 shops. Browse through furniture, lighting fixtures, silverware, china, glass, jewelry, linens -- dating from antiquity to the twenties and thirties. Some are bargains; some are pricey. All are intriguing. Also in Dania Beach, the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA) offers unique, upscale home furnishings.

But Broward County shopping is not just for bargain-hunters and nostalgia buffs. A dozen major malls offer the best to be found anywhere in the world. The Galleria features Neiman-Marcus, Saks, Cartier, Dillards, Ann Taylor, Lord & Taylors and many other department and specialty stores in a three-story complex along Sunrise Boulevard, a short walk from the beach.

Opportunities for indulging in the sport seem endless in Plantation, on University Drive, with the Broward Mall and the Fashion Mall.
