Wells and John Wells as the Coast Guard Development Company, the Las Olas Company was originally established to acquire and rent beach and ocean front cottages in Fort Lauderdale. The brothers soon determined that a hotel would be a great business opportunity and in 1936 built the Hotel Champ Carr on Las Olas. The property was renamed the Riverside Hotel in 1947, which the Las Olas Company still owns and manages today. With the budding growth of the economy and tourism in Fort Lauderdale after WWII, Las Olas Boulevard saw a major expansion of retail stores in the late 40s and early 50s, making it a significant shopping district. Economic prosperity brought continuous growth and more people to Las Olas throughout the next three decades. The company, which was officially renamed the Las Olas Company in 1991, has evolved into the premier residential retail and office leasing business on the boulevard. Investing in the Community One of the original investors in beautiful downtown Fort Lauderdale, the Las Olas Company currently owns, leases and manages eighty percent of the prime real estate on Las Olas Boulevard. The Riverside Hotel The Las Olas Company owns and manages the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas Boulevard. Rising twelve stories above Fort Lauderdale’s sleepy New River amidst a bustling skyline at 620 East Las Olas Boulevard, the Riverside Hotel features 213 guest rooms and 11 suites.
