“You just can’t cancel Christmas”, said Tony Beall, Executive Director of the Las Olas Association.

On Tuesday, November 29th the South Florida skies unleashed a deluge of rain for hours at a time. No one was sure that the 40th year of Christmas on Las Olas would go on as planned. Organizers and vendors danced around downpours to set-up the Boulevard for the event. Time was running short and mother-nature continued her humbug behavior.
 

Then as if lit by Rudolph’s nose itself, the street brightened. One and one-half hours prior to the start of the event a ray of sunshine fell upon Las Olas and the rain stopped. You could almost hear a chorus of “Hallelujah!”, as the spirits and optimism of the event organizers and the Las Olas merchants rose.

By 6:30 p.m. the Boulevard was buzzing with pedestrian traffic. Adorned in holiday attire of all sorts (there’s always a few antlers and flashing headpieces in the crowd) South Florida residents, and guests from around the world, enjoyed world-class dining, shopping and entertainment. Five entertainment stages stretched from 6th Avenue to 12th Avenue offering a variety of holiday themed musical performances. Santa arrived to welcome kids of all ages and the ever popular Snow Mountain provided a quick and thrilling sled ride.

In what has been the most stressful and exhausting hurricane season on record, Christmas on Las Olas served as a terrific reminder of the many joys of South Florida. It also served as a reminder of the commitment to excellence and all things world-class, that the Las Olas Association and the Las Olas Boulevard merchants have to our South Florida residents and guests.
